Baby Shower Games

Baby Shower GamesYou have all the girls gathered. You made the cute little tea sandwiches and poured the party punch. Now what? Here’s a list of some fun baby shower games to add a touch of fun to your baby shower.

How Many Baby Items Can You Name ? – Set the timer for five minutes. Then have each guest write down as many baby products as they can name ( i.e. bottle, blanket, pacifier, etc). Give the prize to the guest who names the most baby products! (Materials: pad of paper and pen for each guest).

Onesies by Design -  Hand out a white onesie to each guest and ask them to draw a design on the onesie. Then have the mom-to-be vote on her favorite.  The guest she picks wins a prize, and the mom-to-be gets to keep all the onesies. (Materials: white onesies for each guest, glitter glue, and fabric paint).

Advice for Years Ahead – Have a bowl with a number for as many guests starting with number 1. The number represents the age of the baby. Each guests gets a piece of pretty stationary and a matching envelope.  The guests then write a letter to the baby and/or advice for the mom to receive on his/her birthday correlating to the number picked. The letters are sealed and given to the mom to open on future birthdays. (Materials: a bowl, paper, and matching envelope for each guest.)

What’s In the Baby Bag? – Take a baby bag with a bunch of baby accessories pacifier, bottles, diapers, wipes, etc. (anything you can think of that you need for a baby bag). Put the baby bag on a table or floor and take out all the things from the bag. Have the guests look at it for three minutes and put all the items back in the bag. Then ask each guest to write down what’s in the bag. The guest with the most items wins. (Materials: Diaper bag with baby supplies, pad of paper and pen for each guest).

Measure Mommy’s Baby Belly-  Hand each guest ribbon and ask them to  guest how big mommy’s baby belly looks. The guest cuts the ribbon and they then place it around the mommy’s stomach. The guest who is closest to the actual size wins. (Materials: Toilet paper, ribbon or yarn enough for each guest).

Never say “Baby” – Each guest places the necklace with the baby safety pins or ribbons  around her neck when she arrives.  Whenever a guest says the word “baby” during the shower, any guest who calls it out gets a pin from the other guest who said the word. At the end of the baby shower, the woman with the most pins wins a prize. (Materials: a necklace of baby safety pins or another type of baby object you can place on a string for each guest).

If you are looking for baby shower favors or baby shower door prizes, be sure to check out Moments of Elegance Baby Shower Favors for ideas.

Event Planning Top 10 Mistakes

Whether you are a professional event planner or a novice planning an event, here are the top ten mistakes that you can make.

  1. Failure to budget properly or uncover hidden costs such as travel, audio visual, labor and shipping.
  2. Hiring entertainment based on price. Along with food, entertainment is the most important element in your event…have you been at an event with a bad DJ? What was that like?
  3. Not obtaining and checking references when using a new vendor or facility. In the event planning industry everything is done by word of mouth or on a referral basis. If you are using a vendor you never used before ask for and check references.
  4. Knowing and understanding the  “objectives” of the event. Are you launching a new product? Trying to woo new customers? Build corporate morale? You should always have a clear idea of what your company or client is trying to achieve before you create the event.
  5. Not trouble shooting audio visual issues. Before any event in which any kind of audio visual presentation is happening, you must do at least two dry runs.
  6. Not setting and hitting time lines. You must create a time line in which you lay out all your time lines for ordering, payments, etc.
  7. Selecting the wrong venue for the event. This goes back to your objective, do you need a massive space equipped with audio visuals for a multi-media presentation or do you need a quiet cozy space to woo clients?
  8. Poor planning. You must create a day of itinerary that outlines EVERYTHING that is too happen on the day of the event from the delivery of the flowers to the break down of the table and chairs.
  9. No water for the speakers. This is a rookie mistake. You must have water available for your speakers.
  10. No access to your contact list. On the day of the event, you better have the names and numbers of every single one of your vendors, so you can quickly call them if. Also, you must have a main point person at your venue to help you trouble shoot any issues that can and will come up. This person will be your best friend the day of the event.

The most important rule of event planning is that no matter how much you plan, something can and will go wrong at your event. It’s the law of events.  Keep a clear head, do what you can to rectify the situation and then let it go. Your job is to create the right kind of environment so your guests can enjoy themselves.

So don’t sweat the small stuff. At the end of the day, no one will remember if they were served tap water verses sparkling water, but if the venue is too  small, the entertainment was bad or the food was cold that’ll stick with ‘em!

How to Write the Perfect Thank You Note

“I would thank you from the bottom of my heart,
but for you my heart has no bottom.”
~ Unknown

Has writing thank you notes gone the way of women wearing white gloves and men wearing hats? I think not. If it’s old fashioned to sit down and craft a thoughtful hand-written thank you note, then call me old-fashioned!

Writing the perfect thank you note is waaay easier than you think. Just follow these simple rules by manors maven   Anna Post (yep, she’s related to Emily Post):

  • Say thank you for the specific gift
  • Say something in praise of it or say how thoughtful the gift was
  • Add a few personal lines like look forward to seeing you this fall
  • Or end with a “thanks again” and then sign off

paisleynotecards_l1How easy peasy is that? So easy! Now the only thing you’ll need is the perfect stationary to write your perfect thank you note on. Check out these “Letter Perfect” Elegantly Monogrammed Note Cards in stock at Moments of Elegance. These thank you cards are so elegantly affordable too, with prices starting at just $4.99. You’ll want to stock up on these classic vintage inspired  note cards, so you’ll always be ready to say “thank you.”

Be The Hostess with The Mostest

hostessTo be a successful hostess, when guests arrive say, “At last!” and when they leave say, “So soon?” - UNKNOWN

If the thought of hosting a party gives you hives… never fear, Moments of Elegance is here! Here to help you truly be the hostess with the mostest. Being a true domestic diva is equal parts planning, organization and old fashioned elbow grease. Just remember, an organized hostess is a relaxed hostess and a relaxed hostess is a gracious one. And a relaxed and gracious host can then focus on the most important part of any event — the guests.

If you feel like you need to brush up on your entertaining etiquette, here are some tips for hostesses and their guests.

  1. Use a check list to guide your preparation and do as much as you can before your guests arrive.
  2. Ask about any food or pet allergies beforehand and plan accordingly.
  3. As the guest, arrive on time and bring a gift for the host that suits her tastes or interests.
  4. Hostesses should personally greet guests when they arrive, take coats, offer drinks and make introductions to other guests.
  5. At dinner parties place cards are preferred. If there are not place cards, ask the host if she has a placement for seating arrangements. If not, alternate male and female guests. Be sure to reserve the ends of the table for the hosts.
  6. Do not eat until the hostess is seated and ready to eat.
  7. Pass condiments and food around the table in one direction, and take small portions to ensure that there is enough for all guests.
  8. Hostesses should be aware of foisting unwanted  seconds and thirds on guests.
  9. At the end of the meal, guests should offer to assist the hostess with cleanup.
  10. Guests should be mindful of not overstaying their welcome.

If your etiquette is still a bit rusty, then be sure to check out more helpful suggestions from The Little Pink Book of Etiquette ($9.95, Amazon) by Ruth Cullen. It is a quick reference for any etiquette question you may have.
