Wedding Planning Tips from Moments of Elegance

images2Planning a wedding can be a bit stressful, can’t it? But it doesn’t have to be, really it doesn’t! We swear! We are here to make sure you have the perfect day…the day you have always dreamed of ever since you were a little girl.

Here are some little ways you can make your big day super special:

Share a Secret

Have a little secret between the 2 of you that day whether it be wearing matching underwear or having something “just between you” in your hand, bouquet, pocket or even a special look and when ever you get nervous you look at your partner with “the look” and you’ll both know what each other are thinking about. Some people may catch it and wonder what it’s all about but it’ll be “your little wedding day secret” that helped you get through the day together… depending on each other at the beginning of your life as a family.

Best Man 101

The duties of a best man include being an assistant to the groom and the head of the groomsmen; he also is in charge of the bachelor party, getting the groom to the church, paying the officiant, signing the marriage license, holding the rings and giving a toast at the reception. He has a lot of responsibility and its also traditional to give him a nice gift at the rehearsal dinner to say thank you for all of his hard work!

Choosing Wedding Favors & Decorations

When deciding what wedding favors and decorations to use, there are some questions you can ask to help you choose:

Do you want something that will feature your names and wedding date?

Do you want something that will be fun to play with at the reception?

Do you want to give something that´s useful?

Do you want something that will last for a long time?

Do you want something that will be part of the table decorations?

Do you want a favor that will express both of your interests or personalities?

You’ll also want to find the BEST Wedding Favor company to work with, like Moments of Elegance.

Congrats from The President

Things to ask your wedding planner

How long they have been in business?

How many weddings they have organised.

Can they provide references?

How do they charge, hourly, fixed fee or % of your wedding budget? Do you feel comfortable with this?

Do they accept commission from suppliers is it passed on to the client?

Do they operate on a full time basis or do they have another job?

Ensure they have public liability insurance.

Do they have a portfolio for you to look at?

2010 Wedding Trends

11642103865zlew81We are heading into the home stretch wrapping up 2009. If you got engaged, it probably was a great year for you! So as you  plan your wedding, here are some fun 2010 Wedding Trends to keep in mind.

  • Less IS well Less — Smaller weddings are still the trend. The average size of a wedding is 150 down from 200 to 250 a few years ago.
  • Location, location, location — Couples are getting creative with locations such as art galleries, off beat smaller museums, and restaurants that specialize in wines and small plates. Many couple are even opting for the at home wedding.
  • Going techno — For the super cas weddings, couples are using email and custom websites to annouce thier engagements and wedding details — causing Emily Post to churn in her grave no doubt!

According to Lori Stephenson, owner and senior event consultant with LOLA Event Productions, ”Smaller wedding sizes open the opportunity to look at creative venues like galleries, restaurants and loft spaces, not just traditional hotel ballrooms. If a couple in the medical profession are tying the knot they might want to consider a location like the Chicago’s Museum of Surgical Science.”

Hot Color Trends for Weddings

f7b15be531ab5833dad9a67267b87f71_m1Color Me Beautiful

What are the hot, hot, hot wedding color trends??? For the last few years monochrome colors like black, white and gray have been the go to colors for weddings. The new color trends are infusing the monochromes with a punch of color like a muted plums and yellows.

Eye on Patterns

But the color story doesn’t end there… patterns are tres chic. According to Lori Stephenson, owner and senior event consultant with LOLA Event Productions, “Vintage brocades have been really popular in the last few years, but there are many other fabulous patterns with a contemporary edge from the 1960’s and 70’s that are great mixed with some of the mod elements that are so popular right now with décor like mirrors and Lucite.”

Tone On Tones

Unify your wedding by allowing bridesmaids to choose their dress in a different shade of your “chosen” color. Brides can also add a splash of color to their gowns too.

Color can color your wedding beautiful. So follow the trends, use a punch of colors and add patterns and have fun!

I Take This Engagement Ring

413hyb3bjel_sl500_aa280_1We wait our entire lives for that perfect guy to get down on one knee and ask “Will you marry me?” Then we cry, we laugh, we hug, and we stare at our ring for days and days.  But why a ring? Why not a bracelet? Or a necklace? Or a toe ring? What’s the deal with engagement rings anyway? This is a tradition we kinda take for granted. Believe it or not it wasn’t some marketing ploy drummed up by the jewelry industry. Or was it? Actually that sparkly diamond gracing your ring finger is more than just a ring, it’s a symbol of love, commitment, fidelity, eternity and honor. Pretty neat.

The history of engagement rings, goes all the way back to the ancient Greeks. Those Greeks gave out rings as a token of care and affection as well as betrothal rings.  But, a girl couldn’t bet her toga that the ring was a sign of marriage, they were also given out as friendship rings too.  Too bad Socrates didn’t write, “Sorry, Athena, He’s Just Not that Into You.”

The Romans were a sentimental bunch, that’s a big NOT! They carved keys onto their engagement rings to symbolize the woman’s right to half of everything the man owned. Or we could go the Hollywood route and say it was to symbolize that she had the key to his heart. Whatever works for you.

Flash forward to the fourteenth century, the royals and the rich folks started exchanging what we now consider engagement rings. The deal was only the super wealthy could afford to exchange rings.  That was because several centuries before the Pope instituted a mandatory waiting period or engagement before couples could get married.

Like most of our modern day traditions, the Victorian Era marked the time when the masses started giving and receiving engagement rings. During this period, engagement rings included precious stones.

It wasn’t until the 1940′s when De Beers launched an advertising campaign targeting the US that the diamond became the stone of choice for the engagement ring. And that’s why modern brides have a diamonds on their fingers as a symbol of love and commitment.

Bridal Showers Do’s & Don’t's

Here are bridal showers do’s & don’t's taken from the book Wedding Etiquette by Peggy Post. According to Ms. Post, here are some helpful tips for the bride and the host:

Bridal Shower Do’s & Don’ts

  • Do send thank-you notes to all shower guests—even if you thanked them in person at the shower. And don’t forget those who couldn’t attend but did send a gift.
  • Don’t ask guests to address their own thank-you notes.
  • Do send a thank-you note and a gift to anyone who hosts a shower for you.
  • Don’t coerce anyone—especially bridesmaids—to host a shower. It’s a financial burden that many aren’t able to take on.
  • Do include registry information on a separate sheet in the envelope with the shower invitation, but not on the invitation itself. The theme of the shower (Kitchen, bath, lingerie) may be noted on the invitation, but color preferences or sizes should be noted on a separate insert.
  • Don’t invite anyone to a shower who won’t be invited to the wedding. Showers are intimate gatherings for people you know very well—not excuses to haul in more gifts. The only exception is a workplace shower to which a large number of coworkers contribute. (If an office shower involves only a few coworkers, thoughtful couples will probably include these colleagues in the wedding guest list.)

Something old, new, borrowed & blue

Something old, something new
Something borrowed, something blue
And a silver sixpence in her shoe.

We’ve all heard it. All brides have to have something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue on their wedding day. But did you ever wonder where that wedding tradition actually came from? The saying dates back to the Victorian era. It started in Great Britain around 1551. And for good luck  and happiness brides have been honoring the tradition ever since.

Let’s break it down for you:

  • Something old –  represents the link between the bride’s past especially her ties to her mother or grandmother, most importantly it signifies the continuity between the bride’s family and her new one. Oftentimes brides wear a piece of antique jewelry.
  • Something new – symbolizes good luck and happiness in the marriage. The wedding dress is usually the something new and it represents the fact that the bride and groom are building a new life together.
  • Something borrowed – is especially important because the bride should “borrow” something from a happily married friend, to lend the bride some of her martial happiness. This piece is of course returned after the wedding and can be anything of sentimental value.
  • Something blue — is the ancient symbol for faithfulness, purity and loyalty. In the olden days, couples wore blue arm bands, but the modern bride usually wears a blue garter. FYI…Moments of Elegance features blue garters ranging in price from $18 to $22.

So, there you have it.  May your wedding day be a memorable event filled with love and happiness with a little dash of luck!
